Asbestos exposure can lead to many lung diseases including those affecting the pluera such as pleural effusions, pleural plaques, and pleural thickening. It may take 20 to 40 or more years after exposure to asbestos for symptoms to appear
Multiple studies have linked workplace asbestos exposure with cancer of the pharynx, larynx, and esophagus. A study found an over 25% increase in the number of deaths due to laryngeal cancer among workers exposed to asebstos.
Cancers of the colon and rectum are the third-most common cancer and cause of death among men and women in the US. More than 90% of all cases are diagnosed in people ovre 50. Asbestos fibers were found in the colons of workers exposed to asbestos.
When you breathe asbestos fibers, mucus removes them from your lungs to your throat then on to your stomach. A small number of these fibers can penetrate cells in the stomach or intestines and cause cancer.
Asbestos is classified as a known human carcinogen, and exposure to asbestos results in a very serious risk of developing lung cancer. A new lung cancer diagnosis happens in the US every 2.3 minutes.
Though it accounts for only .3% of all cancer diagnoses in the US, "meso" is a terrible cancer. Taking 20 to 50 years to show up, about 3,000 people are diagnosed per year with this asbestos-related cancer .
Wilson & Hiatt has a proud history of representing rural workers, agricultural and farm workers, and those who like to do their work outside. We are always helping our rural and farm workers who are suffering from injuries related to the chemicals they used at work. With Herbicides, Pesticides, and other chemicals going under new EPA review, we are learning that many of these chemicals branded as safe and used by workers daily were known by their makers to be dangerous and cause terrible, often life-ending , injuries.
